The Federal Government’s Role in Regulating Online Gambling

The first major attempt at bringing the law into play was the introduction of the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act in 1999. In 2001, there were some changes to this law. A bill was introduced in the US Senate. This bill would have made it a crime to gamble on the Internet.
The bill was rejected by the US Senate. Nevertheless, the Justice Department has taken some action against online gambling operators. This is in part because of the Wire Act. Additionally, the Department of Justice announced that it will enforce the act against all forms of Internet gambling, even though it does not specifically refer to online gambling.
Despite its limitations, online gambling is gaining popularity. Many people prefer this method because they can play anywhere and they do not have to go to a physical location.
